The Band

The Charcoal Club are a diverse group of talented musicians. Here is some info on the band members.

Richard Frankland (lead vocals/acoustic guitar)
Richard wrote his first song when he was 13 years old. Since then he has written and recorded over 100 original songs about Aboriginal culture, deaths in custody, stolen generation, voice, land rights, falling in love, culture, family and life. The song Malcolm Smith has been covered by many koorie tribalexpvert.JPG    bands including The Tiddas. 

Andy Baylor (vocals/acoustic guitar/violin)
Andy has been playing music with Richard since 2000. A number of Andy's songs appear on Richard's award winning short film HARRY'S WAR. You can find out more about Andy and his music at - www.baylormusic.com

Monica Weightman (vocals/acoustic guitar)
Monica is a talented singer/songwriter who hails from Townsville. In 2003 she recorded the lively LIVING IT UP with Paul Hester which is a crowd favourite and featured on the koorie short film MAKIN CHOICES. Aurora Kurth (vocals)
Aurora has been singing with the band since 2004. She is an established singer, teacher, facilitator, director and award winning theatre maker and actor. She commenced her formal vocal training at age 12 and has since performed extensively as a singer and actor throughout Australia and New Zealand. In 2005 she played the role of Amber in Richard Frankland's stage adaption of Walkabout. In 1999 she won the Melbourne Fringe Best Theatre Award for her self devised show Finding The River. She currently sings with the The Charcoal Club and electronic act Spoonbill. Aurora runs a company called Sing Big which offers singing and acting services for business, education and fun in Australia and New Zealand

Rosanne Hunt (cello)
Rosanne is one of the best celloists going around. Her vibrant cello playing brings another dimension to the band.

Andrew O'Grady (double bass)
The man with the big double bass and nimble fingers Andrew has been playing with the band since 2003.

Harry Lye (drums)
With his range of suits and leather shoes Harry is the style master of the band. His jokes have astounded audiences around the country.
